Eyebag Reduction
Bags under eyes are mild swelling or puffiness under the eyes. With aging, the tissues around your eyes, including some of the muscles supporting your eyelids, weaken. Fat that helps support the eyes can then move into the lower eyelids, causing them to appear puffy. Fluid also may accumulate in the space below your eyes, adding to the swelling. Eyebags are usually a cosmetic concern and rarely a sign of a serious underlying medical condition.
Causes of eyebags
Several factors that cause or worsen the condition, includes:
- Aging
- Fluid retention, especially upon waking or after a salty meal
- Lack of sleep
- Allergies
- Smoking
- Genetics — under-eye bags can run in families
- Medical conditions, such as dermatitis, dermatomyositis, renal disease and thyroid eye disease

How can eyebags be treated?
Eye bags can now be treated without surgery. This are preferred by patients who are bothered by their eye bags but are not keen to risk surgery, surgical scar, bruising and long downtime.
Laser Treatments
- Fotona 4D
With two laser wavelengths and 4 treatment steps, Fotona 4D approach skin lifting and rejuvenation by working on all depths of the skin, working on superficial imperfections to the deeper connective structures of the skin. It stimulates collagen production and contraction of the fat pads and tightens the eyelids which results in lifting.
Ultrasound Treatments
- HIFU
HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, which is a non-invasive procedure that is used for skin tightening and lifting. It uses a high-intensity ultrasound that allows the deepest penetration of energy, reaching depths of up to 4.5mm. By effectively treating the deeper skin layers, it stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibres, causing them to thicken and shorten, tightening the skin around the eyes.
RadioFrequency Treatments
- Ultherapy
Ultherapy® uses high intensity focused ultrasound to target the deep layers of the skin under the fat layer (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System, or SMAS) to stimulate collagen production and promote skin contraction for lifting and tightening.
In addition, Ultherapy® uses real-time ultrasound imaging that allows doctors to determine the layer of tissue to treat for optimal results. Micro-focused ultrasound energy is then applied to the eye area, heating up tissues to stimulate the production of collagen. The process stimulates collagen and elastin production, resulting in a lifting effect.
Injectables
- Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers treatment involves injecting a gel-like substance into the skin under the eyes, which can help plump up the area and reduce the appearance of bags. Dermal fillers can also be used to address other signs of aging around the eyes, such as hollowing or dark circles.
- Botulinum toxin
Botulinum toxin is a non-surgical treatment option for reducing the appearance of under-eye bags. This treatment involves injecting small amounts of botulinum toxin into the muscles under the eyes, which can help relax the muscles and reduce the appearance of bags.
