CHAS subsidies can be used to alleviate the medical costs of common illnesses, selected chronic conditions at participating clinics.

Common illnesses are acute conditions that can be cured with medication and rest. They are short-term or minor health problems that do not require long-term care. For example:

• Abdominal pain
• Cough, cold, flu
• Diarrhoea
• Fever
• Headache
• Skin infection and rashes
• Sore eyes
• Urinary tract infection

On the other hand, chronic diseases are generally progressive conditions that require long-term treatment and medication. There are 23 chronic conditions covered under CHAS:

• Allergic Rhinitis
• Anxiety
• Asthma
• Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
• Bipolar Disorder+
• Chronic Hepatitis B
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
• Dementia
• Diabetes Mellitus (DM) (including Pre-Diabetes)
• Epilepsy
• Gout
• Hypertension (High blood pressure)
• Ischaemic Heart Disease
• Lipid Disorders (e.g. High cholesterol)
• Major Depression
• Nephritis/Nephrosis (Chronic Kidney Disease)
• Osteoarthritis
• Osteoporosis
• Parkinson’s Disease
• Psoriasis
• Rheumatoid Arthritis
• Schizophrenia
• Stroke

The colour of the CHAS card indicates the subsidy tier that cardholders are entitled to, namely the CHAS Blue, Orange or Green tier. All Pioneer Generation (PG) and Merdeka Generation (MG) seniors will also receive special subsidies at CHAS clinics.

The amount that cardholders pay will be based on the fees charged by the clinic, minus the CHAS subsidies. The fees will vary according to each patient’s condition and clinic’s charges.
